The International Labour Organization ( ILO ) was founded at the Paris Peace Conference after World War I in 1919. Today it is a sub-organization of the United Nations based in Geneva/Switzerland. ILO is promoting intenational labour standards. In 2019 it published a brochure how to meet the challenges of the 21st century.

15.03.2019 : Land/Food/Nature

Under the leadership of the Faculty of European Studies and Regional Development of the Agrarian University of Nitra/ Slovakia and co-funded by the Erasmus+ Program of the European Union a conference focused the topic "Land Protection" (see also european-retail-academy.org/TUN). 10 countries presented in 21 contributions the status quo of the legal frame to use land and discussed the relationship between land for food, forestry, tourism, and the other sectors of human life.

Prof.Dr.B.Hallier presented his holistic trias of economics, ecology and ethics and underlined that "the factor land" should not only be evaluated in terms of economic output, but should include in a formular also the UN-sustainability goals and the fair distribution between the different social groups - even globally. One point in this concept could be the trans-formation of a percentage of farmers into "landscape rangers" to preserve historical landscapes and to work for anti-climate change activities (full lecture: Download).

In 2006 the European Retail Academy decided to honor each year one outstanding personality, who beside his/her work as a researcher contributes also by building bridges between theory and applied sciences or via social or cross-border activities.

15.11.2018 : ISO

The International Standardization Organization (ISO) was founded in 1947 and is headquartered in Geneva/Switzerland. More then 150 countries are member bodies, corresponding members or subscriber members. ISO standardization needs the following seven procedures: preliminary work item new work item proposal working draft committee draft draft international standard final draft international standard publication international standard. Those standards are descriptions - they are not a guarantee for a quality itself.

Since the 80ies Prof. B. Hallier pushed within the food business the ISO Packaging norms as a rationalization tool: based on the module 400 x 600 mm sales-cartons and palettes by 1200 x 1000, 1200 x 800 and 600 x 800 can flow most easily from production via transportation units and depots finally into the shelves of retail. Not only efficiency was increased by this system but also damage in the transportation flow decreased: saving food waste too. More about ISO here.
