Mass distribution via self-service like since the 70ies of the last century in the USA and Western Europe would have been not possible without product-identification by barcodes and scanning in the cash-zones of supermarkets. Since 2005 the national bar-code institutions are harmonized towards a Global Standard (GS 1) worldwide:(see LINK Intro GS 1).
"For Certifications within the Thematic University Network Food knowledge about the main international Standard Setters is absolutely necessary" Prof.Dr.B.Hallier stated "because they are driving forces for modern distribution from farm to fork".
15.07.2018 : Circular Economy
In December 2015 the European Commission published a Circular Economy Package to encourage more sustainability in the UN reflected by the UN Sustainability Development Goals for 2030.
EuroCommerce now discussed the status quo in Brussels and the plans to revise various waste directions and to minimize waste and losses. The motto was "Scaling up market solutions in Retail & Wholesale". The meeting of 250 experts was attended also by high level administration officials like Dr. J.Potocnik/UN International Resource Panel and former EU-Commissioner, D.Calleju Crespo/ General Director DG Environment, B.Poisson/ French Ministry for Ecology, MEPs like A.J.Valean or K. van Brempt. Retail was represented among others by Carrefour, IKEA, METRO, BGA, FCD, Virke and Prof.Dr.B.Hallier (at the photo together with the EuroCommerce President Regis Degelcke and Christian Verschueren Managing Director EuroCommerce).

Business life in the 21st century is speeding up due to new technologies like smartphones, clouds, permanent short-time availability.Therefore nature as a long-time environment for living is an important balance for the soul of the human beings. Land Protection and Bio-Diversity are conditions sine qua non for Life/Work Balance to understand the complex system of our globe - as well as Art as a different way of awareness is an additional fuel for Emotio of Human Development according to the opinion of Prof.Dr.B.Hallier.
Situated in the "King's Forest" in Roesrath - a Green Belt" next to the city of Cologne/Germany - he used for his house for heating geothermic systems, electricity supported by photovoltaic and saving the rain-water in a pond digged by himself . "We should not only use nature - but each individual person should also protect nature" is his and his neighbours motto who promote jointly also art to turn their village into "an open gallery" as a new way of living in harmony.

15.03.2018 : Sustainability Goals
The United Nations defined 17 Sustainability Goals for the year 2030. Based on this agreement now national, regional and local communities establish platforms to fulfill these goals.
The region of NorthRhineWestfalia in Germany created the initiative LAG 21 (www.lag21.de) - a dialogue between civil society, politics, administration, business and sciences. At the founding meeting of the local group of the city of Bergisch Gladbach near Cologne Prof.Dr.B.Hallier attended and agreed to multiply this idea via the Global Green University and the Silk Road Mayors' Club (VIDEO).
15.01.2018 : Green Future
Originated in Sweden in 2018 political protests of young people started under the slogan "Fridays for Future". Meanwhile it became a worldwide movement and shows how concerned the young generation is about the climate change and green issues.
It is worth mentioning that already in May 2013 student delegates on the way from Yekaterinburg/Russia to the Astana Economic Forum/ Kazakhstan drafted a declaration under the leadership of Prof.Dr.M.Fedorov/USUE and Prof.Dr.B.Hallier/ERA which was signed by the Nobel Laureate Prof.Dr.R.Chung/Korea as the first external professor - and which ended by the Site www.european-retail-academy.org/GGU/ (Global Green University) designed by Dr.Alina Pukhovskaya.
